Lhasa are the result of two completely different worlds colliding. One from a sleepy, small city in New Zealand, while the other grew up in one of the biggest cities in China. Like the coming together of two completely different lives, their music is a combination of an organic acoustic sound and a penchant for rock music. Their striking harmonies and poetic songwriting provide an immersive, emotional experience. Inspiration is drawn from tales of love and loss, life's longings, friendships, and disappointments. The songs were written in the midst of navigating evolving relationships, leaving childhood, and settling into new environments.
Lhasa released Birdsong on 21 September. They performed live on RNZ and Radio 13, and were featured on international blogs Atwood Magazine and Buzz Music.
“They have a certain interconnectedness when they perform, you can hear how smoothly everything moves along together, rising in intensity and passion gradually before settling back down.” – Buzz Music
“Right from the get-go the crisp capturing of excellent performances is apparent. Samuel and Micaela’s voices complement each other so well” – Muzic.net.nz
Lhasa are supported on this tour by Auckland musician George After James. His intricate guitar playing, soaring vocal melodies and innovative writing combine to form detailed sonic layers that support his contemplative and honest lyrical wanderings.

IN THE SHALLOWS
In The Shallows are a Wellington based acoustic duo specialising in atmospheric acoustic folk music.
Danni Parsons and Lance Shepherd met by chance in July 2019.
After swiftly realising they share the same musical goals, they immediately set about writing and recording a bunch of songs before the backdrop of Kapiti Island under the the name ‘In The Shallows’
Their etherial guitar moods and honest, sometimes heartbreaking vocal harmonies are reminiscent of an early Angus & Julia Stone with a touch of Everly Brothers’ catchiness around the edges
Danni works mainly in film, theatre and television. Growing up in Wales, she has performed in musical theatre since she was 6 years old. Danni later went on to study music at Whitirea and in 2011 performed alongside other well accomplished NZ musicians, as a singer/songwriter in Wellington band 'Soul Caravan'. Danni has been writing for an acoustic folk duo for some time though, and finally that dream is realised in the forming of ‘In the Shallows’.
Lance has worked as a professional musician/producer since leaving high school.
Based in London through the 2000’s as a touring/recording guitarist with Martina Topley-Bird (ex Tricky) Lance has worked with a number of producers such as Johnny Dolla (Massive Attack) Leila Arab (Bjork) has played a number of high profile radio, television and live shows shows throughout Europe and the US including BBC2, France Inter, XFM, Later… With Jools Holland, Montreaux Jazz Festival and SXSW
Since returning to NZ Lance has been on the look out for a vocalist of similar calibre to bring his musical ideas to life… Enter Danni and In The Shallows was born!
